Can you Change a Dress with a Zipper to a Corset Back?

Almost any wedding dress can be converted from a zipper back to a corset back. The hardest part is matching fabric. Most seamstresses that work through a bridal shop  or have connections with a bridal shop can get them to  order a corset kit from the manufacturer of the dress so the fabric matches perfectly  (We do this at Alterations By Christy).

There are uaually two reasons that someone would want to do this. The most common reason is that the dress is too small and won’t zip up past the waist. For a dress to be converted to a corset back, it MUST fit in the hip area.! If the dress is too tight and won’t go down over the hips or buckles at the waist, than it won’t work.

The second reason is that you just like the corset style dress, even though the dress is a perfect fit.  If this is the case, than you will have to have the dress taken up in the sides to make it too small to zip, creating a gap of space for the corset.

ImageImageThe opening should look like a perfect V down the center back and be at least three to five inches wide for the corset to look nice.

The cost to do this is usually around $100.00, so be sure you factor that in when making a buying decision.

“How Far in Advance Should I Rent my Tuxedo for Prom”

Most places prefer that you rent or reserve your tuxedo at least three weeks prior to the event date. Especially during the prom season, which is the busiest season of the year!

If you reserve your tuxedo in a timely manner, you won’t have to worry about availability. Once you come in and reserve your tuxedo, vest, and tie, they take it out of the system so no one else can rent it. You won’t have to worry that the one you wanted, won’t be available for your special day!

If you have a particular color that has to match the girls dress and you procrastinate, you may find out that they ran out of that color of vest and tie you needed and had to give you the closest thing to it.

The most common problem that occurs when guys wait , is that the average sizes and most popular jackets rent out first. When this happens, they have to substitute if, for either a more expensive jacket or maybe the cheapest looking one.

You may also accure a rush fee, on top of the rental cost. Especially if it has to be shipped over night!

Most places only require a deposit and you can pay the balance when you pick it up.

Tuxedos are usually a weekend rental and never come in any sooner than a few days prior to the event, unless you pay for another weekend rental.

Rent it now and get it off your mind!

When Should I Start Shopping for My Prom Dress?

ImageShops  put out their prom dresses  for the new year as early as January. January is the time to get the best selections. Things get gone extremely quick in prom season. As soon as gowns hit the floor they are taken. The hottest new styles are usually the very first to go. So do not wait around until the best styles are picked over. Get a head start so that you will not get leftovers.

You also need to purchase early to make time for alterations if needed. A good seamstress starts scheduling alterations for prom in January. There are only a few good seamstresses and hundreds of girls going to prom in your area. You do the math!
