When Should I Buy my Wedding Gown if I’m Trying to Lose Weight?

My advice is to start working on the weight loss as soon as you set the wedding date. (Especially if you start planning a year in advance) Give yourself six to eight weeks to lose as much weight as you can before you start shopping. You will feel much better about how you look in the gowns and it will make the experience more exciting and enjoyable. Most girls do this in reverse order! Of course, this may not be possible if you are planning a wedding in six months or less.

First you have to find the perfect dress and that can take some time. After you find it and place the order, it can take several months for the wedding gown to arrive in the store. Don’t forget, during the peak seasons, it may take four to six weeks to for alterations.

Order the wedding gown in the size you are at the time of ordering, not what you hope to be! It can be taken in a size or two if you lose more weight, but not always let out that much.

Of course if you don’t have much time but want to lose weight, your other option is to wait until a month or two before the wedding and to buy a gown off the rack.

If time is on your side, work on the weight first!
